      General

The Multi Protocol Interface (MPI-2/MPI-3) allows your computer to communicate with modules using appropriate protocol and wiring.  The MPI-2 translates the different module protocols and signals into a standard USB protocol that is suitable for your personal computer.

      Hardware

The MPI-2/MPI-3 on one side have a built-in cable with the USB male connector, and on the other side have a DB9 (RS-232) male connector. On top, there are two status LED’s (USB and CAN).

MPI-2/MPI-3 adapter is powered from the USB port on your computer.

The following table lists the MPI-2/MPI-3 hardware components:

      Component Description
Built-in USB cable Connects the MPI-2/MPI-3 to USB port of your computer (laptop)
DB9 (RS-232) Connects the MPI-2/MPI-3 to the vehicle or to DESS Post Interface
USB Green LED Indicates that the MPI-2/MPI-3  is powered. If the LED does not light, you   need to reinstall the driver IXXAT.
CAN LED Shows the status of communication with the module.

      Software

The MPI contains identification parameters.  Upon startup, B.U.D.S. reads these parameters and displays them into the MPI Information window.
